MeRISE: What do you do currently?
Glory: I am a pastry chef.
MeRISE: Are you going to use English when you are at work?
Glory: Yes. I’m planning to work in Cebu, so I’ll use English more often then.
MeRISE: Why did you decide to come to the Philippines?
Glory: First, I wanted to know more about the local culture and life style here, because I’m going to work in Cebu soon. Second, the distance, Philippines is close to Taiwan.
MeRISE: Why did you choose MeRISE out of all the language schools in Cebu??
Glory: I was interested in another English academy before I decided to study with MeRISE. However, I founded out that I don’t like the environment and accommodation there. Conversely, I prefer MeRISE’s facility and accommodation after a visit. I’ve the opportunity to met teachers in MeRISE as well.
MeRISE: How was your study in the Philippines?
Glory: It’s a Japanese owned language school, I like how everything is organized and follow the rules. Also, I don’t have a good English foundation, so I feel more secure when I can speak the language I know-Japanese. As for the teachers, I like the way how teachers can modify or improve the classes content anytime.
MeRISE: Have you studied English before?
Glory: Just like other Taiwanese, I took English classes during the compulsory education.
MeRISE: Did you enjoy your weekends in Cebu?
Glory: I did some marketing research during my stay in Cebu. I went to some dessert shops and department store on weekends for my future store preparation.
MeRISE: Do you think your English ability has already improved through this study abroad?
Glory: My writing skill has improved, teachers always correct my mistake when I used is, are, has, have incorrectly. Although, it still cannot be perfect, but I started to aware those problems. I’ve also learned different idioms and expressions that I never used in speaking before. Having conversation with teachers help my listening improve a lot as well.
MeRISE: How do you keep your English competence in the future?
Glory: I’m thinking to continue my study online.
MeRISE: Do you have any plans after studying abroad?
Glory: I’m planning to travel back to Cebu for work.
MeRISE: Finally, I would like you to leave a message to those who are going to study at MeRISE!
Glory: You should try to speak out more even your English level is not that good; your English must improve a lot in this way. I used to be a person who don’t speak English when I was in Taiwan. You must ask yourself to speak English more, don’t be afraid to have a mistake or shy to speak. The people here won’t blame you or correct you, because they understand that you’re an English learner.
